Hong Kong-based crypto exchange HashKey announced on Monday the creation of the HashKey treasury fund, a $500 million investment vehicle designed to build a diversified portfolio of digital asset treasuries. The fund will initially focus on mainstream cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin (BTC) and ether (ETH), with the goal of standardizing how institutions manage crypto reserves.
According to HashKey, the HashKey treasury fund is intended to “build an institutional bridge between traditional financial capital and on-chain assets.” The move underscores growing institutional demand for reliable structures to hold, manage, and deploy digital currencies at scale.
“Establishing the HashKey treasury fund is about setting a benchmark for treasury management in digital assets,” — Livio Weng, CEO of HashKey Exchange, in a company statement.
Bridging traditional finance and digital assets
As one of the first licensed exchanges under Hong Kong’s digital asset regime, HashKey has positioned itself as a critical player in connecting regulated finance with blockchain markets. The HashKey treasury fund reflects a broader industry shift, where publicly listed companies and institutional investors increasingly look to diversify their holdings through crypto treasuries.
Michael Saylor’s MicroStrategy pioneered this approach, accumulating more than 600,000 BTC since 2020. His strategy has inspired firms such as BitMine (BMNR) and SharpLink Gaming (SBET), which have since added ether to their corporate balance sheets.
“The growing adoption of crypto treasuries signals a structural change in corporate finance,” — Jason Chan, blockchain analyst at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. “The HashKey treasury fund could accelerate this trend by offering a regulated framework for large-scale institutional participation.”
Institutional demand for standardized crypto treasuries
The launch of the HashKey treasury fund comes at a time when institutional appetite for regulated exposure to digital assets is intensifying. Unlike earlier retail-focused investment products, this initiative is tailored to institutions seeking long-term, standardized management of cryptocurrencies.
HashKey officials emphasized that the fund will not only allocate capital into BTC and ETH but also evaluate opportunities across digital asset treasury projects, providing diversification and reducing risk exposure.
“Institutional investors have been waiting for frameworks that look and feel like traditional finance,” — Clara Wong, Head of Research at HashKey Capital. “The HashKey treasury fund provides that familiar structure while still tapping into the unique advantages of blockchain assets.”
The road ahead for corporate crypto strategies
Industry observers note that the HashKey treasury fund is well-timed, as companies across sectors increasingly consider digital assets as part of their reserve strategy. The trend aligns with broader regulatory clarity in Hong Kong, where authorities have encouraged compliant digital asset offerings.
If successful, the HashKey treasury fund could serve as a blueprint for other exchanges and asset managers seeking to formalize corporate crypto holdings. However, analysts caution that volatility in BTC and ETH remains a key challenge, and long-term adoption will depend on risk management frameworks.
For now, the HashKey treasury fund places HashKey at the center of Asia’s institutional crypto conversation, signaling both investor confidence and regulatory support for a maturing asset class.
