The BlackRock Bitcoin ETF recorded its strongest single day of inflows in nearly three months on Friday, January 2, as institutional and retail investors funneled fresh capital into US listed Bitcoin exchange traded funds.
According to data published by Farside Investors, BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, known by its ticker IBIT, attracted 287.4 million dollars in net inflows, the largest one day addition since October 8.
The renewed demand lifted total Bitcoin ETF inflows for the day to 471.3 million dollars, marking the biggest combined inflow since mid November.
The surge erased earlier weekly outflows and brought total net inflows for the week to 458.7 million dollars, signaling a clear shift in investor sentiment at the start of the year.
Broad Bitcoin ETF participation reinforces momentum
Momentum from the BlackRock Bitcoin ETF quickly spread across the broader ETF landscape.
Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, FBTC, recorded 88.1 million dollars in net inflows, while Bitwise’s BITB added another 41.5 million dollars. The remaining US listed Bitcoin ETFs collectively brought in 54.3 million dollars, with no product posting outflows on the day.
This synchronized buying marked a notable shift from the choppier flow patterns seen in late 2025. Analysts attribute the renewed interest in part to the January effect, a seasonal trend in which investors rebalance portfolios at the start of a new year after periods of underperformance.
Bitcoin ETFs ended 2025 as the dominant force in digital asset investment products, accounting for 67 percent of nearly 32 billion dollars in total crypto ETF inflows.
BlackRock alone closed the year with approximately 24.7 billion dollars in cumulative inflows across its Bitcoin offerings, underscoring the outsized role the BlackRock Bitcoin ETF continues to play in shaping market structure.
“ETFs have fundamentally changed how capital enters Bitcoin,” said Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer at Bitwise Asset Management, in a statement published on the firm’s official blog at Bitwise Investments. “Products like the BlackRock Bitcoin ETF make allocation easier for institutions that were previously sidelined.”
Geopolitics and macro uncertainty fuel Bitcoin demand
Beyond seasonal portfolio adjustments, broader macro and geopolitical developments also appear to be supporting flows into the BlackRock Bitcoin ETF and its peers.
Bitcoin prices extended a four day rally after reports emerged that the United States captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro over the weekend, intensifying global political tensions.
Bitcoin rose from approximately 87,480 dollars on January 1 to an intraday high of 93,169 dollars by Monday, reinforcing its narrative as a hedge during periods of geopolitical stress.
Some investors are increasingly viewing Bitcoin as a strategic asset amid uncertainty surrounding US foreign policy under the Trump administration’s America First stance.
“Bitcoin is being priced as a geopolitical hedge, not just a speculative asset,” said Markus Thielen, Head of Research at Matrixport, in remarks carried by Matrixport Research. “Flows into vehicles like the BlackRock Bitcoin ETF suggest investors are positioning for longer term macro risk.”
Supporters of this view argue that Bitcoin’s fixed supply and global liquidity make it attractive during episodes of political instability, particularly when traditional markets react sharply to unexpected developments.
Technical outlook supports cautious optimism
From a technical perspective, Bitcoin’s price action has reinforced bullish sentiment. At press time, Bitcoin was trading around 92,500 dollars, up 3.3 percent over the past seven days and approximately 9 percent above its December low. Despite the recent rally, the asset remains roughly 26.6 percent below its all time high set in October.
On the daily chart, Bitcoin has confirmed a breakout from a symmetrical triangle pattern, formed by converging trendlines over recent weeks. Historically, breakouts above this structure have often preceded additional short term upside.
Analysts are closely monitoring the 91,488 dollar level, which aligns with the 23.6 percent Fibonacci retracement. If Bitcoin holds above this support, bulls may attempt a push toward the December high near 94,267 dollars.
While risks remain, the return of large scale inflows led by the BlackRock Bitcoin ETF suggests investors are once again willing to increase exposure, positioning Bitcoin ETFs as a central pillar of crypto market participation in early 2026.
