WazirX says crypto deposits outpaced withdrawals by up to 6x in H1 2026 as non-metro users drive growth

India's crypto trend gathered momentum in the first half of 2026 as deposits surged, withdrawals declined sharply, and long-term investor confidence strengthened, according to WazirX.

WazirX says crypto deposits outpaced withdrawals by up to 6x in H1 2026 as non-metro users drive growth

WazirX users held onto their crypto rather than cashing out during the first half of 2026, with deposits outpacing withdrawals by two to six times and withdrawal requests falling nearly 55%, according to the exchange’s newly released H1 2026 India Crypto Trends Report.

The report, published by the cryptocurrency exchange, also found that millennials continued to dominate the investor base, while users from non-metro cities accounted for the overwhelming majority of verified accounts, highlighting how the India crypto trend is expanding beyond major urban centres.

The report attributes the growth to renewed investor confidence following WazirX’s platform restart, alongside increased adoption of futures trading, broader participation in artificial intelligence (AI), decentralized finance (DeFi), gaming, Layer-2 and real-world asset (RWA) tokens, and improvements in platform security.

India crypto trend reflects stronger investor confidence

The latest India crypto trend points to investors taking a longer-term view of the digital asset market rather than seeking quick exits.

According to WazirX, crypto deposits consistently outpaced withdrawals by between two and six times throughout H1 2026. At the same time, withdrawal requests declined by nearly 55%, suggesting that more investors chose to hold their assets instead of cashing out.

The report also showed that approximately 95% of all traders who returned after the platform’s restart were existing users. Among them, one in seven injected fresh capital into the market, indicating renewed confidence rather than simply reallocating previously held funds.

Millennials continued to drive adoption across the platform. Users aged between 25 and 34 accounted for 50.8% of the customer base, while nearly 80% of all verified users fell within the 25-44 age bracket. The average WazirX user was a 34-year-old working professional from a non-metro city.

Non-metro participation remained particularly significant, with more than 82% of verified users coming from cities outside India’s largest metropolitan areas, reinforcing the broadening reach of the India crypto trend across the country.

Futures trading and new products fuel India crypto trend

The report found that the India crypto trend was also supported by rapid adoption of new trading products.

WazirX Zero subscribers traded nearly twice the monthly volume of users who paid trading fees on a per-transaction basis. Subscribers also recorded 13% higher trading frequency and more than five times greater repeat engagement, suggesting sustained platform activity under the fixed-fee model.

Futures trading emerged as one of the exchange’s fastest-growing offerings during the reporting period. Trading value increased by 300% between March and June, while more than 93% of Futures traders also remained active in Spot markets, demonstrating stronger engagement across multiple products.

Trading activity reflected changing investor preferences as well. Stablecoins accounted for 38.5% of overall trading volume, making them the primary liquidity gateway for users. Bitcoin, Ethereum and Layer-1 assets together represented 28.4% of total trading volume.

Meanwhile, meme coins attracted the highest number of unique traders, highlighting continued retail interest in speculative assets. As market sentiment improved during the second quarter, participation expanded into sectors including AI, DeFi, gaming, Layer-2 networks and real-world asset tokens, further illustrating the evolving India crypto trend.

WazirX focuses on rebuilding trust and platform security

Beyond trading activity, the report emphasized measures introduced to strengthen trust following the platform’s restart.

During H1 2026, WazirX completed the issuance of Recovery Tokens to all eligible users within the court-approved timeline. The company also integrated Fireblocks’ digital asset infrastructure alongside BitGo to bolster platform security.

Additional initiatives included the launch of the Guardians of Trust programme, aimed at improving transparency and user education, as well as Taxlyst, a free crypto tax reporting platform for Indian users.

Reflecting on the first half of the year, WazirX Founder Nischal Shetty said the company had prioritised rebuilding confidence among its customers.

“The first half of 2026 marked an important phase in rebuilding WazirX. At the start of the year, we set ourselves a clear objective: make customer delight our default. For us, customer delight means looking at every decision from the user’s side. This principle shaped how we improved our product, supported users and delivered the commitments made during our restart.” — Nischal Shetty, Founder, WazirX

Shetty added that maintaining transparency remains central to the company’s strategy.

“For our users, we are working hard to become a platform that works consistently, communicates transparently and delivers on its commitments.” — Nischal Shetty, Founder, WazirX

The findings suggest the India crypto trend is increasingly characterised by longer holding periods, growing adoption outside metropolitan regions, and expanding participation across a wider range of digital asset sectors. With stronger product engagement and renewed investor confidence, the report indicates that the India crypto trend continued to mature during the first six months of 2026.
