Who we are and how to contact us
The Bit Gazette publishes news, analysis and opinion at thebitgazette.com. This notice explains information handling when you visit the website, comment, contact us or subscribe to updates.
For privacy questions or requests, email info@thebitgazette.com with the subject Privacy request. Our published contact location is Silicon Oasis, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Further contact details are on our Contact page.
Information you provide
When you contact us, we receive the details you choose to send, such as your name, email address, message and attachments. We use these to respond, assess news tips, investigate corrections, handle permissions or deal with business enquiries. Please share only what is needed and do not send passwords, wallet seed phrases or private keys.
If you subscribe to a newsletter, the subscription service receives your email address and any other details you enter in the sign-up form. Subscription information is used to deliver the updates you request and manage your preferences. Use the unsubscribe link in a newsletter or contact us to stop receiving it.
Comments and accounts
Comments collect the information entered in the comment form, together with an IP address and browser information used to help detect spam. Approved comments and the display name you provide are public. An email-derived hash may be sent to Gravatar to display a profile image; see Automattic’s Privacy Policy.
For website accounts, WordPress stores the profile information provided. Account holders can review and edit their profile information, subject to WordPress restrictions such as fixed usernames. Administrators can access account information to operate and secure the site. A password-reset email may include the requesting IP address.
Technical information, analytics and security
Visiting the website can generate technical information such as the pages requested, referring page, browser and device details, IP address and time of access. Hosting, performance and security services process information needed to deliver pages, diagnose faults and detect abuse.
The site uses Google Analytics through MonsterInsights and Jetpack statistics to understand readership and site usage. Analytics can involve cookies or similar identifiers and information about page visits and interactions. Google’s explanation of information received from partner websites and Automattic’s Privacy Policy describe their respective practices.
Newsletter features may be delivered through Mailchimp or Jetpack, depending on the subscription form or service you use. Those providers process subscription information and may record email delivery, opens or link interactions where those features are enabled. The provider’s notice and subscription controls apply to its service.
Cookies and your choices
Cookies can support sign-in, saved preferences, comment forms, measurement and third-party features. If you choose to remember your comment details, WordPress saves them in cookies for one year. A temporary sign-in test cookie is removed when the browser closes. Standard login cookies last two days, or two weeks if you choose Remember Me; display-preference cookies last one year. Signing out removes login cookies. Editing an article can set a one-day cookie identifying the edited post.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser. Where a cookie-preference control is displayed, use it to manage the choices it offers. Disabling cookies may affect sign-in or other features. Withdrawing a newsletter subscription does not automatically delete browser cookies, and changing browser settings does not itself unsubscribe you from email.
Advertising, embedded content and external links
Advertisements and embedded videos, images or social posts may contact third-party services when loaded. These services can receive your IP address and browser information, use cookies and associate interactions with an account you hold with them. Their own privacy notices explain their handling of that information. Advertising-related collection depends on the provider and the content loaded.
Following a link to another website takes you to a separate service with its own privacy practices. A sponsored article or press release is not permission for us to provide the sponsor with your private correspondence.
Sharing and service providers
Information may be processed by providers supporting hosting, email delivery, analytics, security, spam filtering, backups and website operation. Access should be limited to what is needed for the relevant service. We may also disclose information where required by law or necessary to address fraud, abuse or a legal claim.
Service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Their privacy notices describe their processing locations and applicable transfer arrangements. Contact us if you need information about a particular service or disclosure.
Retention
WordPress comments and their metadata may remain indefinitely to support the comment history and moderation. Account data remains while an account is maintained, subject to applicable administrative, legal and security needs. For enquiries and business correspondence, retention depends on the purpose of the exchange, whether the issue remains open and any record-keeping obligations.
Subscription records are retained to manage delivery and preferences; an unsubscribe or suppression record may remain to prevent unwanted resubscription. Analytics, security and backup records follow the relevant service settings and operational needs. Contact us to ask about a specific record or request deletion.
Your requests and rights
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of your personal information, restrict or object to certain processing, and withdraw consent where processing relies on it. You may also be able to complain to your local data-protection authority.
Email a request to the address above and explain your relationship with the site. We may need to verify your identity before releasing or changing information. Some records may need to be retained for legal, security or legitimate record-keeping reasons. Public-interest reporting and third-party information can also affect how a request is handled.
Uploads, security and updates
Images can contain embedded location information. Remove sensitive metadata before submitting material for publication. Publicly published files may be downloaded by others. No website or email channel can guarantee absolute security.
We may update this notice when our services or practices change. The date at the top identifies the latest revision. For editorial questions rather than data requests, see our Editorial Policy & Corrections.
