Meme coin BONER locks half of tokenized Hims & Hers float, sending price 112% above Friday’s close

Robinhood Chain traders are using tokenized U.S. equities as gateways into meme coins, creating weekend price distortions and drawing criticism from AMC CEO Adam Aron.

A meme coin called BONER has locked up more than half the tokenized shares of Hims & Hers Health circulating on Robinhood Chain, and the resulting supply squeeze sent the wrapped stock trading at a 112% premium over the weekend, before real-market arbitrage erased the gap within minutes of Monday’s open.

The strategy emerged in the weeks after Robinhood Chain launched July 1 as an Arbitrum Orbit Layer-2 blockchain designed around tokenized U.S. equities. Its Stock Tokens are issued by Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited and backed one-to-one by real shares held in custody.

They provide economic exposure and dividends but do not confer voting rights or beneficial ownership, and they are not offered to U.S. persons.

The latest RWA Meme Coin trend took shape after launchpads long.xyz and Bankr introduced a structure in which newly created meme coins could be paired directly with Stock Tokens.

RWA, or real-world assets, refers to traditional assets represented on a blockchain. In this case, however, the tokenized stock serves a more unusual purpose: traders must acquire it before they can enter certain meme-coin markets.

For example, a creator could launch a meme coin paired with tokenized AMC. Rather than using ether or a dollar-linked stablecoin, the meme coin’s Uniswap v4 liquidity pool would use AMC Stock Tokens. Anyone wanting to buy the meme coin would first need AMC tokens, which would then be deposited into the liquidity pool in exchange for the newly created asset.

The stock tokens remain in the pool after the transaction. As more traders purchase the meme coin, more tokenized shares can become concentrated in that pool.

Meme trading squeezes the available stock-token supply

The RWA Meme Coin structure creates an unusual relationship between meme-coin demand and tokenized stock liquidity.

Every purchase of a meme coin generates demand for the Stock Token used in its trading pair. At the same time, heavy buying can pull a large percentage of the available on-chain supply into a single liquidity pool.

That distinction matters because the number of tokenized shares circulating on-chain can be extremely small compared with the underlying company’s actual stock float.

By Sept. 2, meme coin-stock pairs had recorded $217 million in trading volume, compared with $127 million in direct Stock Token markets. Earlier examples included Artificial Inu paired with NVDA, Saylormoon with MSTR and Clippy XP with MSFT.

BONER provided one of the clearest demonstrations of how the model can affect a thin tokenized market.

The meme coin launched around Aug. 20 on long.xyz against tokenized Hims & Hers stock. Over approximately 10 days, traders placed 31,198 of the 58,714 HIMS tokens then outstanding into the BONER/HIMS liquidity pool. That represented about 53% of the entire on-chain float.

Another 1,424 HIMS tokens were held in other meme-coin pools, leaving roughly 20,300 tokens available for ordinary trading. By comparison, Hims & Hers had approximately 233 million real shares.

The huge difference between the blockchain supply and the company’s actual share count became particularly important once the New York Stock Exchange closed.

Weekend trading pushes tokenized HIMS above $100

The RWA Meme Coin market operates around a fundamental timing mismatch between crypto and traditional equities.

Robinhood permits only licensed authorized participants to mint or burn Stock Tokens. New tokens can be minted only while the NYSE is open, while crypto markets continue operating around the clock.

The NYSE closed Friday, Aug. 28, with Hims & Hers shares at $28.84. Following a small post-close burn, the on-chain supply stood at 15,226.8 HIMS tokens. No additional minting was available during the weekend.

As trading continued, much of the remaining freely available HIMS supply became concentrated in the BONER pool. The ordinary HIMS/USDG market was left with only a shallow supply.

That created the conditions for dramatic price movements.

Automated market makers determine prices according to the relative quantities of assets remaining in a liquidity pool. When one side of the pool becomes scarce, even relatively modest trades can produce substantial price changes.

Tokenized HIMS reached $61.15 at 23:36 UTC on Sunday, representing a 112% premium over the real stock’s Friday closing price. Other reports cited an hourly high of $132.64 on only tens of thousands of dollars in trading volume.

The movement did not reflect a comparable change in Hims & Hers’ underlying business. A larger tokenized HIMS market on Ondo continued to track the actual equity. The sharp move was therefore concentrated in Robinhood’s thin weekend wrapper.

The RWA Meme Coin effect became clearer when traditional markets reopened Monday.

Robinhood’s overnight equity session began at 00:00 UTC. The first 1,000-token mint arrived at 00:43:30 UTC, and within 12 minutes the premium fell from roughly 93% to about 12%.

By 01:59 UTC, tokenized HIMS was trading at $29.31. Between midnight and 09:54 UTC, 18,750 new tokens were minted across 294 events, more than doubling the supply.

Authorized participants had a straightforward arbitrage opportunity. They could purchase real HIMS near its market price, mint equivalent Stock Tokens and sell those newly created tokens into an on-chain market trading at a premium.

AMC dispute puts Robinhood’s model under scrutiny

The RWA Meme Coin phenomenon has also expanded to AMC Entertainment, where a token called MEME was paired with tokenized AMC stock.

MEME reportedly generated $73.5 million in 24-hour volume, making it the largest among the stock-meme group. Its market capitalization was around $56 million, while its main liquidity pool held approximately $2.6 million.

The development drew a public response from AMC CEO Adam Aron, who said the company had no connection to Robinhood’s tokens and did not endorse them. He also questioned how a Jersey-based product could use AMC’s name without U.S. securities registration.

Aron later described the arrangement as a “fictitious synthetic equity market” and called on Robinhood to stop trading AMC Stock Tokens. He also said outside counsel and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission would become involved.

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev responded publicly, asking, “What’s the concern?”  Vlad Tenev, Robinhood CEO.

Robinhood Chief Legal Officer Dan Gallagher, a former SEC commissioner, also rejected the call to halt the trading and said Robinhood would not stop.

Robinhood’s position is that its Stock Tokens are clearly disclosed Jersey-issued products providing economic exposure to the underlying securities rather than direct ownership of those shares.

The controversy itself quickly became part of the RWA Meme Coin narrative. AMC’s established status within meme-stock culture gave traders a ready-made story, while the public dispute between Aron and Robinhood executives helped generate additional attention around the tokens.

For traders, however, the mechanics remain more important than the rhetoric.

The stock-token squeeze is not a GameStop-style squeeze

The RWA Meme Coin phenomenon does not amount to a conventional short squeeze in the underlying stock.

Locking tokenized HIMS or AMC into a meme-coin liquidity pool does not compel short sellers of the actual shares to cover their positions. Robinhood’s Stock Tokens are Jersey-issued securities that provide economic exposure; they are not the same as shares held through a company’s transfer agent and cannot simply be delivered into a traditional stock-loan system.

The scale of the market also limits the connection. The entire tokenized HIMS float represented only a small fraction of the company’s real shares and roughly 0.1% of its reported short interest.

What traders were effectively squeezing was the available supply of the blockchain wrapper.

That distinction explains why a tokenized stock can temporarily trade dramatically above the value of the underlying equity. Once authorized participants can mint new tokens, the supply constraint can disappear and arbitrageurs can sell newly created tokens into the premium.

Meanwhile, the associated meme coin can continue rising because its price is driven primarily by attention, speculation and narrative rather than the fundamental value of the company represented by the Stock Token.

The RWA Meme Coin model therefore creates several interconnected markets at once. Meme-coin creators and launchpads can benefit from trading activity, meme buyers create demand for the underlying Stock Token, and authorized participants retain access to a fresh supply that ordinary traders cannot create themselves.

That final advantage could remain central to the market’s structure.

A weekend price above $100 for a tokenized AMC or HIMS asset does not necessarily indicate that the underlying stock is headed toward the same level when Wall Street reopens. If authorized participants can mint new tokens against real shares, they have an incentive to sell those wrappers whenever the premium becomes sufficiently large.

For Robinhood, the experiment highlights both the potential and the complications of bringing traditional assets onto a blockchain. Traders have quickly repurposed tokenized equities as quote assets for meme coins, while the resulting liquidity dynamics have exposed how sharply an on-chain wrapper can diverge from the security it represents when new supply is temporarily unavailable.

The RWA Meme Coin market has already generated significant trading activity and demonstrated how quickly liquidity can shift between tokenized stocks and speculative crypto assets.

The next phase could bring further meme-coin launches, additional scrutiny from companies whose shares are represented by the tokens, and closer attention from regulators.

For now, the central distinction remains clear: traders may be able to create scarcity in a tokenized stock wrapper over a weekend, but that is fundamentally different from squeezing the underlying company’s shares.
