TRON founder Justin Sun has filed a civil lawsuit against Chinese actress Jing Tian and her parents, seeking to recover more than 30 million yuan that his legal team describes as a betrothal payment made during the couple’s relationship.

Jing was recently photographed visiting a beauty spa, with images published by Sina Entertainment showing the actress arriving in casual clothing, wearing a hat and face mask and accompanied by an assistant. The photographs subsequently circulated widely on Weibo, where users debated whether her appearance suggested that she was unfazed by the legal controversy.

The Jing Tian dowry lawsuit began making headlines in late August after Sun’s lawyer confirmed that a civil case had been filed against Jing and her parents over a property dispute involving more than 30 million yuan. The case has reportedly been accepted by a court, although it has not yet reached the substantive trial stage.

Jing Tian dowry lawsuit draws intense social media reaction

The latest development in the Jing Tian dowry lawsuit came as photos of Jing’s spa visit spread across Chinese social media.

Some Weibo users defended the actress’s decision to continue with her daily life despite the controversy, while others interpreted the appearance differently.

One user wrote: “What happened has happened; should she hide away and not dare to show her face, or must she weep and mourn?”

Another commenter took a more skeptical view, writing: “Jing Tian is just pretending to be normal to prove she is ‘innocent’.”

The competing reactions highlight how the dispute has developed beyond a private financial disagreement into a highly visible public controversy involving two prominent figures.

Sun, the founder of the TRON blockchain network, has publicly discussed his version of the relationship and the circumstances surrounding the payment. His lawyer, Zhang Qihuai, previously confirmed that the case involved more than 30 million yuan and that Sun’s side had also sought property preservation. Jing’s side has filed a jurisdictional objection, which remains under review.

At this stage, the allegations surrounding the relationship should not be treated as established facts. The legal dispute remains unresolved, and the court has yet to make a substantive determination.

Justin Sun says payment was linked to marriage plans

The Jing Tian dowry lawsuit became more complicated after Sun published a lengthy account of his alleged relationship with Jing.

In the post, titled “My Girlfriend Jing Tian,” Sun described discussions about marriage and surrogacy and said he had transferred 30 million yuan to Jing’s parents as a betrothal payment. The post was labelled as “fictional,” even though Sun subsequently explained that it reflected his thoughts and doubts about what had happened.

Sun told Tech Ifeng:

“Most of the content aligns with what I think. I noted ‘fiction’ because I cannot guarantee that 100% of the details are factual. But at least I wrote what I was thinking, including my doubts.”

The entrepreneur also alleged that Jing requested an additional US$50 million shortly before an egg-retrieval procedure. According to his account, the dispute contributed to his decision to end the relationship after he consulted an artificial intelligence chatbot.

The AI element has added another unusual dimension to the controversy, with Sun later acknowledging that he remained uncertain about both the chatbot’s assessment and his own decision.

“I am still not sure if the AI’s judgment was correct, nor am I certain if the decision I made at the time was right or wrong,” — Justin Sun, in comments to Sing Tao Headline.

The claims concerning the alleged US$50 million request and the couple’s private arrangements remain part of Sun’s account of events rather than findings established by a court.

Jing Tian rejects money-related allegations

The Jing Tian dowry lawsuit has also prompted a direct response from the actress, who rejected suggestions that financial considerations influenced her relationships.

In a statement published on Weibo, Jing strongly denied the characterization of her relationships as financially motivated.

“I have not in the past, do not now, and will not in the future ever sell my love for money, let alone my soul,” — Jing Tian, in a Weibo statement.

Jing said she continued to believe in love while acknowledging that she believed she had poor judgment when it came to men. She also emphasized her intention to rely on the legal system rather than continue the dispute publicly.

“I still believe in love but my judgment in men is still poor, and I am still lacking in wisdom. In the end, I believe in the law, I believe in kindness, and I believe there will ultimately be justice and fairness. Time will prove everything.”

Her management agency has similarly indicated that it intends to keep the dispute within formal legal channels rather than respond to every allegation appearing online.

“Reputation is the life of an artist, but also an artist’s vulnerability. However, we have enough courage to say ‘No’ to those who exploit this to pressure artists. We trust the law and will follow legal procedures to handle the matter,” — Jing Tian’s studio, according to Kbizoom.

The agency said subsequent updates would focus on formal legal developments.

What happens next in the Jing Tian dowry lawsuit?

The Jing Tian dowry lawsuit now moves into a legal process that could determine how the 30 million yuan payment is characterized and whether Sun is entitled to recover it.

Reports from Chinese media indicate that Sun’s legal team considers the money a betrothal payment made in anticipation of marriage. The distinction is important because the legal treatment of such payments can differ from that of ordinary gifts exchanged during a relationship.

The case is currently at an early stage. Jing’s side has challenged the court’s jurisdiction, and that objection is still being reviewed. No substantive trial or final judgment has been reported.

The Jing Tian dowry lawsuit has therefore yet to produce a definitive legal answer to the competing accounts surrounding the payment and the former couple’s relationship.

The dispute has nevertheless placed both parties under intense scrutiny. Sun, 36, is the founder of TRON and an adviser to digital-asset exchange HTX. He has also previously represented Grenada at the World Trade Organisation. Forbes has estimated his wealth at approximately US$8.5 billion, according to reports cited in the original account.

Jing, meanwhile, remains a prominent Chinese actress with a substantial following on Weibo.
