Samsung files patent for a smart-contract crypto wallet that could cut private-key exposure across phones, wearables and appliances

Samsung’s latest patent application outlines a smart-contract wallet model that could let users initiate digital-asset transactions without directly handling private keys.

Samsung Electronics has filed a U.S. patent for a crypto wallet that runs on a smart contract, letting devices such as smartphones, wearables and home appliances start transactions without storing a private key. The application, published on July 23, 2026, lists Gyubok Moon as inventor and traces its priority to Korean filings from September 2023. The filing is not a product launch, and it sets no commercialization timeline.

Samsung crypto wallet could reduce private-key exposure

Under the proposed system, one electronic device would act as a supporting device capable of creating and managing a smart contract associated with another device.

The second device could request registration of an address used for cryptocurrency transactions along with authentication information.

Samsung’s patent describes a process in which the supporting device generates an address and sends transaction information to a blockchain network. That information can then be used to create a smart contract designed to perform wallet functions.

Once the smart contract has been created, registration information containing the relevant address and the blockchain address of the smart contract can be transmitted back to the user’s device.

The Samsung crypto wallet architecture is designed to allow a transaction to be initiated without the user’s device directly possessing the security information normally required for signing a transaction.

The patent specifically describes a system in which the second electronic device can initiate a cryptocurrency transaction without security information like private key.

Samsung crypto wallet supports multiple devices

Another notable component of the Samsung crypto wallet patent is its ability to accommodate multiple electronic devices.

The patent describes mechanisms for adding a new device to an existing wallet arrangement, updating transaction addresses and restoring wallet-related information. This could potentially allow a cryptocurrency wallet to be managed across different categories of connected hardware.

Samsung identifies smartphones, computers, wearable devices and home appliances among the types of electronic devices that could potentially participate in such an ecosystem.

Users increasingly interact with digital assets across smartphones, desktop computers, hardware devices and other connected platforms. A system capable of coordinating these devices through blockchain-based authentication could make wallet access more flexible.

However, investors should distinguish between a patent filing and a commercial product. The existence of the Samsung crypto wallet patent does not establish that Samsung has decided to launch the technology or integrate it into an existing consumer product.

The application also does not establish that the technology will become part of Samsung Wallet. There is currently no commercialization timetable specified in the patent filing.

Samsung crypto wallet signals continued blockchain interest

The latest filing adds to Samsung Electronics’ history of exploring blockchain and cryptocurrency-related technologies.

Previous Samsung patent filings have covered areas including cryptocurrency transfers, blockchain address management and blockchain-based services.

One earlier Samsung application, for example, described an electronic device designed to send cryptocurrency to a blockchain address. Another focused on managing blockchain addresses through electronic devices.

The new Samsung crypto wallet filing is significant because it takes the concept beyond simply storing or transferring digital assets. It explores how smart contracts themselves could assume functions normally associated with wallets.

The patent states that cryptocurrency transactions can be completed after authentication information supplied by an electronic device is compared against information stored by the smart contract.

The transaction can then be executed using the smart contract’s blockchain address and associated private key.

If similar models become commercially viable, crypto wallets could increasingly rely on programmable smart contracts, device authentication and multi-device coordination rather than conventional private-key management alone.

Samsung’s patent also leaves open questions around security, user control, blockchain compatibility and implementation. Moving wallet functionality into smart contracts could create new security considerations, particularly because smart-contract vulnerabilities can introduce risks of their own.

The Samsung crypto wallet proposal therefore represents an important technology-development signal, but not yet a confirmed consumer offering.

Samsung crypto wallet filing demonstrates that major technology companies continue to explore ways to make blockchain transactions more accessible and easier to manage.

Whether Samsung eventually converts the patented concept into a commercial service will determine its practical significance for cryptocurrency users and investors.
