CFI Financial Group’s Bahrain arm has received Central Bank of Bahrain approval to let clients fund trading accounts with Tether’s USDT and Circle’s USDC, announced on October 12.
The stablecoins are converted to fiat by ARP Digital Bahrain, a CBB-licensed crypto-asset service provider, so CFI itself never custodes, exchanges or holds crypto.

CBB approval opens the door to stablecoin-funded trading accounts

The Central Bank of Bahrain’s approval permits CFI Bahrain to introduce a funding arrangement based on two widely used dollar-pegged stablecoins: USDT, issued by Tether, and USDC, issued by Circle. These digital assets are designed to maintain a value linked to the US dollar, although their stability depends on the underlying reserve arrangements, redemption mechanisms and market conditions.

The regulatory decision is significant because it establishes a framework through which eligible clients can use digital assets to fund trading accounts at a regulated brokerage without requiring the broker itself to custody or exchange those assets.

CFI Financial Group, an international online trading provider, said the service would be delivered in partnership with ARP Digital Bahrain. The partnership separates the cryptocurrency-related settlement functions from CFI Bahrain’s brokerage operations.

This structure is central to the proposed service. Rather than accepting and retaining stablecoins directly, CFI Bahrain will receive fiat currency after the relevant settlement process has been completed by its licensed partner.

The arrangement distinguishes the new funding option from a brokerage model in which the platform itself holds clients’ crypto-assets. It also clarifies the responsibilities of each participating company within the transaction process.

By introducing stablecoin-funded trading accounts, CFI Bahrain is expanding the range of payment methods available to its clients while maintaining a separation between digital asset processing and its own receipt of trading funds.

ARP Digital manages settlement and crypto-related risks

ARP Digital Bahrain will oversee the infrastructure required to process stablecoin-funded transactions. Its responsibilities include wallet generation, transaction screening, risk scoring and the conversion of stablecoins into fiat currency.

These functions form the operational foundation of the service. Wallet generation supports the receipt of digital assets, while transaction screening and risk scoring help identify transfers that may require additional review under applicable compliance procedures.

The conversion process ensures that CFI Bahrain receives fiat currency rather than stablecoins. According to the announcement, the brokerage will not custody, exchange or directly deal in crypto-assets at any stage of the arrangement.

This division of responsibilities is intended to allow each company to operate within its designated role. ARP Digital handles the crypto-asset settlement infrastructure, while CFI Bahrain receives the resulting fiat funds for clients’ trading accounts.

The model also highlights the importance of compliance controls when digital assets are used to move money into traditional financial services. Screening transactions and assessing risk can help service providers evaluate transfers before funds reach their intended destination.

However, the announcement does not provide detailed information about transaction limits, processing times, supported blockchain networks, applicable fees or the specific procedures used to handle unsuccessful transfers. It also does not outline the full eligibility requirements for customers seeking to use the service.

Those details may be important for clients assessing whether stablecoin-funded trading accounts offer practical advantages over conventional bank transfers or other existing payment methods.

Stablecoin-funded trading accounts target faster, more flexible funding

For clients already active in digital asset markets, the new service offers an additional route for transferring funds into a trading environment. Investors who hold USDT or USDC may benefit from a funding option that better accommodates their existing digital asset activity.

CFI said the solution is designed to make the onboarding, funding and trading process more flexible while reducing friction for customers. The company particularly highlighted the potential relevance of the service to investors familiar with digital assets.

The announcement described the client benefit as follows: “a faster and more flexible funding method – particularly for those already active in digital assets,” according to CFI Financial Group’s announcement.

The company also emphasised that the new service is structured around a specialised settlement partner rather than direct cryptocurrency handling by the brokerage. Under the arrangement, ARP Digital manages the relevant crypto infrastructure, and CFI Bahrain receives fiat currency only.

These operational details are important because the introduction of stablecoin-funded trading accounts does not mean that clients will necessarily trade cryptocurrencies through CFI Bahrain. The approval concerns how accounts are funded, not an announcement that the brokerage has added a new range of crypto-trading products.

The practical advantages will depend on factors such as settlement speed, transaction costs, the stablecoin networks supported and the procedures clients must follow to complete transfers. The announcement did not quantify potential savings or provide a comparison with existing funding methods.

Nevertheless, the service gives eligible clients another potential option for moving funds between digital asset holdings and regulated trading services.

Bahrain’s regulated market gains another digital asset payment option

CFI Bahrain’s approval comes as financial service providers explore ways to incorporate digital asset infrastructure into established financial operations. Stablecoins have attracted interest because their dollar-linked design can make them useful for transfers and settlement, although they continue to carry operational, regulatory and market risks.

Bahrain’s regulatory framework is an important element of the development. The Central Bank of Bahrain’s approval provides the regulatory basis for CFI Bahrain to offer the newly announced funding arrangement, while ARP Digital’s licensing supports its role as the crypto-asset service provider.

The partnership illustrates one way traditional financial businesses can accommodate digital assets without directly assuming responsibility for holding or converting them. By assigning settlement functions to a specialist provider, the brokerage can receive fiat funds while keeping crypto-asset processing separate from its own operations.

For customers, stablecoin-funded trading accounts may offer greater convenience, particularly when their existing assets are held in USDT or USDC. However, users will still need to consider the costs, processing requirements and risks associated with the stablecoin transfer and conversion process.

The announcement did not include direct quotations from CBB officials or ARP Digital representatives, nor did it provide a statement detailing the regulator’s reasoning for granting approval. No specific launch date beyond the announcement was disclosed.

CFI Bahrain’s move therefore represents a defined expansion of its account-funding options rather than a broader change to its trading offering. Its longer-term significance will depend on customer adoption, the efficiency of the settlement arrangement and how the service operates within Bahrain’s regulatory requirements.

With the approval secured and the operational responsibilities divided between the brokerage and its licensed partner, stablecoin-funded trading accounts give CFI Bahrain a new way to serve investors who want to connect their digital asset holdings with traditional online trading services.

As the service develops, its performance, transparency and accessibility will help determine whether the funding model becomes a widely used option among clients in Bahrain and the wider region.
