Coinbase users report missing balances and pricing errors amid Base network degradation

A Coinbase outage linked to third-party performance issues once again disrupted access, balances, and pricing for users across multiple regions.

A Coinbase outage left users reporting missing balances and incorrect asset prices on January 22, 2026, as the crypto exchange acknowledged performance issues tied to third-party systems and network degradation.

The incident, which affected users in several regions including the Philippines, marks the latest in a series of disruptions that have raised questions about platform reliability, even as Coinbase assured customers that their funds remained secure.

In a post on X, Coinbase said it was “aware that some users were experiencing incorrect or missing balances and incorrect price quotes for assets on Base,” confirming that internal teams were investigating the Coinbase outage and would provide updates as more information became available. The company emphasized that the issue did not compromise customer funds.

Missing balances highlight recurring Coinbase outage concerns

According to Coinbase, the latest Coinbase outage involved degraded performance on the Base Network and delays related to certain deposit methods. During the investigation, the exchange identified lag and poor performance when users attempted to deposit Canadian dollars via electronic funds transfer (EFT) on the mobile app.

The company sought to reassure customers amid widespread complaints on social media. “We’re aware that some users were experiencing incorrect or missing balances,” — Coinbase, in a statement posted on X. It added that “all funds remain safe” while engineers worked to resolve the issue.

On its status page, Coinbase noted that some regions experienced limited access during the Coinbase outage, although users could still log in through alternative networks such as Wi-Fi or international connections while traveling. After identifying the root cause as degraded Base Network performance, the exchange later reported that the incident had been resolved.

Despite the resolution, the episode added to a growing list of recent platform disruptions. Status page data show that the exchange has logged more than 86 notice-worthy incidents in the past three months alone, underscoring how frequently users encounter some form of Coinbase outage or degraded service.

Network delays compound the Coinbase outage pattern

The January 22 incident followed closely on the heels of other network-specific problems. On January 20, Coinbase reported delays in sending and receiving transactions on the Ronin network. While that issue did not affect buying, selling, or fiat withdrawals and deposits, it still prompted user frustration and renewed attention on the exchange’s operational resilience.

Similarly, on January 19, the platform confirmed delays in sending transactions on the Polygon network. As with the Ronin issue, Coinbase said receiving, buying, selling, and fiat services were unaffected. In each case, the exchange reiterated that customer funds were secure during the investigation.

These repeated disruptions have reinforced a perception among some users that Coinbase outage events are becoming routine rather than exceptional. January alone recorded nearly 17 reported incidents, with two still scheduled for maintenance, according to Coinbase’s own disclosures.

In each update, the company maintained a consistent message: service degradation was being monitored, fixes were underway, and funds were safe. Yet the frequency of these notices has fueled ongoing scrutiny from users and regulators alike.

AWS and infrastructure failures behind major Coinbase outage

Beyond routine network delays, Coinbase has also been affected by large-scale infrastructure failures. Late in 2025, a major AWS US-East-1 regional outage caused one of the most significant Coinbase outage events in recent years.

The disruption unfolded in two waves roughly from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. ET and again from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET impacting not only Coinbase but many other businesses reliant on AWS.

During that incident, users reported being unable to access the platform, with trading disrupted and transfers, withdrawals, and deposits delayed or failing outright. Coinbase later said the AWS outage also affected market data, staking, onboarding, and cryptocurrency send-and-receive services.

According to the exchange, users experienced poor performance for a total of 3 hours and 17 minutes. Full service was restored around 6:45 p.m. ET after AWS implemented changes to several dependent technologies, including EC2 network state propagation.

Earlier disruptions have produced similar user experiences. In February 2024, a technical issue caused many customers to see a zero balance when opening their accounts an incident that mirrors reports from the latest Coinbase outage. At the time, the company acknowledged the problem publicly.

“We are aware that some users may see a zero balance across their accounts and may experience errors in buying or selling,” — Coinbase, in a statement, directing users to monitor its status page for updates.

User complaints persist amid recurring Coinbase outage reports

The cumulative effect of repeated Coinbase outage incidents is reflected in user complaint data. Since 2016, Coinbase users have filed more than 11,000 complaints with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission.

Most of these complaints relate to customer service issues, including delayed responses during outages and difficulties resolving account problems.

While Coinbase remains one of the largest and most widely used crypto exchanges globally, the pattern of outages, network delays, and balance display errors continues to test user confidence.

Each Coinbase outage revives questions about the exchange’s dependence on third-party infrastructure and its ability to scale reliably during periods of high demand or technical stress.

For now, Coinbase maintains that recent incidents have not endangered customer funds and that system performance has been restored. However, as outages accumulate, users and regulators are likely to keep a close watch on how the platform addresses the operational challenges underlying each Coinbase outage.
