Moon Pursuit’s Ahuja predicts crypto VC will chase quantum security by 2027

Crypto VC firms are increasingly looking beyond near-term token narratives as quantum computing emerges as a longer-term security challenge for blockchain networks.

Crypto VC shifts toward quantum-ready infrastructure for 2027

Utkarsh Ahuja, founder of Moon Pursuit Capital, expects crypto venture investors to place growing emphasis on quantum-resistant blockchain infrastructure heading into 2027, a bet his firm has already backed with an $8 million seed investment in AmericanFortress, a startup building quantum-resistant transaction-signing technology.

Rather than focusing exclusively on new tokens, decentralized applications and short-term market narratives, venture investors may increasingly look at the underlying technology responsible for keeping blockchain networks secure and operational over the long term.

The ability of blockchains, wallets and transaction systems to adapt to new computing threats could become an increasingly important consideration as institutional capital moves deeper into the sector.

Crypto VC turns attention to quantum risk

Quantum computing has become a growing area of discussion within the blockchain industry because sufficiently powerful quantum machines could eventually challenge cryptographic systems used to secure digital assets.

Moon Pursuit Capital has already demonstrated interest in this area. The firm co-led an $8 million seed funding round for AmericanFortress alongside SAVA Digital Asset Fund and 0G Labs in May 2026.

The funding was directed toward developing quantum-resistant blockchain security technology, while AmericanFortress also filed a patent related to quantum-resistant cryptographic transaction signing.

The investment provides an early example of how Crypto VC firms can gain exposure to infrastructure designed around long-term technological risks rather than immediate market cycles.

Moon Pursuit Capital describes its investment strategy as spanning established digital assets as well as early-stage opportunities across areas including Layer 1 infrastructure, decentralized finance, artificial intelligence and other emerging blockchain technologies.

Why Crypto VC investors are watching infrastructure

Infrastructure capable of strengthening cryptographic security could become strategically important across multiple blockchain ecosystems if quantum technology advances rapidly enough to threaten existing security assumptions.

AmericanFortress has argued that its technology is designed to address this problem by developing quantum-resistant transaction signing that can protect blockchain wallets and networks.

The company’s May funding round was specifically linked to the long-term security implications of quantum computing for cryptocurrency infrastructure.

Moon Pursuit Capital also publicly highlighted the issue following the investment, describing quantum computing as a potential threat to the encryption protecting blockchain networks and wallets.

For investors, the significance is less about predicting exactly when quantum computers will pose a material threat and more about identifying companies building solutions before that threat becomes urgent.

Crypto VC strategy moves beyond short-term narratives

The potential focus on quantum-ready infrastructure also fits a wider evolution in venture investing across digital assets.

Crypto venture firms have increasingly expanded beyond speculative token exposure and into technologies intended to support the underlying blockchain economy.

Moon Pursuit’s own portfolio strategy includes early-stage investments in Layer 1 infrastructure, DeFi, AI-related blockchain projects and gaming, alongside established tokens and selected over-the-counter opportunities.

Projects working on security, interoperability, scalability, privacy and cryptographic upgrades may find a more receptive audience if institutional investors begin placing greater weight on infrastructure resilience.

Quantum-resistant technology remains a developing field, and the commercial success of individual projects will depend on adoption, technical performance and the willingness of blockchain networks to integrate new security standards.

What Crypto VC’s quantum focus means for crypto investors

The expected increase in infrastructure spending does not necessarily mean that Crypto VC firms will abandon more traditional areas of digital-asset investing.

Instead, it could represent another layer of portfolio diversification as investors seek exposure to technologies that may become increasingly important over time.

Moon Pursuit Capital’s involvement in AmericanFortress offers a concrete example of this thesis.

The $8 million funding round places the firm alongside other investors backing technology designed to address a potential future vulnerability in blockchain security.

The broader implication for Crypto VC is that investment decisions could increasingly be shaped by technological durability.

A blockchain project may still need strong adoption, sound economics and a credible development team, but its ability to withstand emerging technological threats could become an additional investment criterion.

As the industry approaches 2027, Crypto VC investors therefore appear positioned to look more closely at the infrastructure underneath the crypto market.

Quantum readiness may remain a developing niche, but the growing attention around blockchain security suggests that investors are beginning to consider risks that extend well beyond the next market cycle.
