NFT sales crash 44.7% to $63.3M even as buyer addresses jump 30%

Global NFT sales have sharply reversed course, with activity falling nearly half despite a surge in buyer and seller addresses and a handful of multimillion-dollar Bitcoin-based trades.

Global NFT sales dropped 44.70% week over week to $63.33 million, reversing a sharp increase recorded during the previous period and highlighting how quickly trading conditions can shift in the digital-collectibles market.

The latest figures, based on CryptoSlam data captured on Aug. 29 using its seven-day filter, show that sales fell from approximately $114.5 million in the preceding seven-day period. Transactions also declined 14.13% to 802,330.

Yet the contraction in dollar volume was accompanied by an unusual increase in market participation. Buyer addresses climbed 30.48% to 227,316, while seller addresses jumped 54.64% to 247,373.

Those figures should not be interpreted as unique people. Blockchain addresses can be controlled by the same individual or entity, meaning the data points to broader address-level participation rather than a confirmed expansion in the number of NFT users.

The divergence between participation and spending suggests a market with more addresses interacting but less transaction value flowing through each trade.

Ethereum remains the market’s dominant NFT blockchain

Ethereum continued to command the largest share of NFT sales, generating $35.56 million in organic volume during the seven-day period. That was still a steep 49.01% decline from the previous week.

Ethereum also recorded $1.66 million in wash-trading volume, which CryptoSlam reports separately from organic activity. Including that figure, Ethereum’s combined volume reached approximately $37.22 million.

Buyer addresses on Ethereum nevertheless increased 34.34% to 33,105, underscoring the broader pattern of higher participation alongside weaker dollar volume.

Bitcoin ranked second with $8.68 million in organic sales, down 59.53%. Its buyer addresses increased 41.11% to 10,161, while wash trading contributed another $85,595.

Polygon followed with $7.03 million, representing a 34.29% decline. Its wash-trading volume was substantially larger, at $18.19 million. Buyer addresses on the network dropped 18.53% to 85,607.

Base generated $3.57 million, down 13.26%, while its buyer count jumped 41.61% to 3,070. BNB Chain posted $2.81 million, a 20.47% decline, despite a 90.16% increase in buyer addresses.

Solana was the notable exception among the largest networks. Its NFT sales increased 11.17% to $1.91 million, while buyer addresses climbed 42.97% to 38,593.

Together, Ethereum, Bitcoin, Polygon, Base, BNB Chain and Solana generated about $59.56 million, or roughly 94% of global organic volume. Immutable added another $1.87 million after its sales increased 18.38%.

The contrasting performance also reflects the increasingly diverse nature of NFTs. DappRadar analyst Sara Gherghelas has previously pointed to a shift toward broader utility and adoption rather than pure speculative demand. In 2025, she described the NFT ecosystem as evolving toward a more accessible, utility-driven sector.

Courtyard leads collections as volumes retreat

At the collection level, Polygon-based Courtyard topped weekly NFT sales with $6.09 million, although its volume dropped 37.55%.

Courtyard recorded 98,531 transactions, down 55.66%, with 17,969 buyer addresses and 11,755 sellers.

Ethereum-based Argonauts ranked second with $5.70 million from 11,271 transactions. Bitcoin’s $X@AGI BRC-20 NFTs followed with $2.58 million, representing a 74.89% increase.

But the Bitcoin collection’s headline growth needs context. Just three transactions, involving three buyers and three sellers, generated its entire weekly volume. That makes the increase highly concentrated and less indicative of broad-based demand.

CryptoPunks generated $2.07 million, up 7.64%, through 19 sales involving 17 buyer addresses and 18 seller addresses.

Base-based Beezie recorded $1.88 million, down 33.29%, despite processing 11,186 transactions. Only nine buyer addresses were recorded against 225 sellers, another example of how transaction counts and address counts can produce very different pictures of market activity.

Blokyz followed with $1.83 million, while Pudgy Penguins generated $1.04 million, an increase of 27.19%. Bored Ape Yacht Club recorded $977,831, down 23.03%.

The collection data reinforces a key feature of the current NFT market: headline volume can be heavily influenced by individual high-value transactions rather than sustained activity across thousands of collectors.

Bitcoin NFTs dominate the week’s biggest trades

Despite Ethereum’s dominance by overall volume, Bitcoin-based assets captured much of the attention at the top end of the market.

The largest individual transaction was a $2.14 million $X@AGI BRC-20 NFT, purchased for 27.1798 BTC roughly two days before the CryptoSlam snapshot.

That single transaction represented about 83% of the collection’s entire $2.58 million weekly volume and approximately 3.4% of global NFT sales.

Four of the five largest individual transactions tracked by CryptoSlam came from the same $X@AGI BRC-20 collection. Another token from the collection sold for $442,220, while separate transactions reached $434,085 and $386,846.

The concentration is important because it shows how a small number of whale-sized trades can materially reshape weekly NFT rankings.

The second-largest individual sale was Flying Tulip PUT #8494 at $484,791, settled for 200 wrapped Ether. Unlike a conventional profile-picture collectible, Flying Tulip’s PUT is an ERC-721 representing a perpetual put position with associated redemption rights. Flying Tulip’s own documentation confirms that its ftPUT positions are represented as ERC-721 NFTs and encode collateral, backing and strike information.

That distinction illustrates how the NFT market is increasingly extending beyond digital art and collectibles into tokenized financial instruments and other forms of on-chain ownership.

Still, the week’s broader numbers point to a clear slowdown. NFT sales fell dramatically even as more blockchain addresses appeared on both sides of the market.

The decline also occurred alongside weakness across the broader crypto market, although the available data does not establish that falling cryptocurrency prices directly caused the NFT contraction. The more defensible conclusion is that NFT liquidity remains highly sensitive to market conditions and concentrated in a relatively small number of collections and transactions.

For collectors and investors, the latest CryptoSlam snapshot therefore tells a more complicated story than the 44.7% headline decline alone: participation is rising, but capital flowing through the market is shrinking, while Ethereum retains its lead and Bitcoin-based NFTs are increasingly capable of generating outsized individual trades.
