AZ-COM Maruwa Holdings plans to pay roughly 2,300 partner companies and independent contractors, including truck drivers, using JPYC, Japan’s first officially registered yen-pegged stablecoin, according to Nikkei.

The initiative, first reported by Nikkei and widely covered by crypto media on July 19, positions the company among the first major Japanese corporations to integrate a regulated yen-backed stablecoin into day-to-day commercial operations.

The move is aimed at improving payment efficiency, reducing settlement delays, and addressing labor shortages while providing another milestone for stablecoin adoption in the world’s fourth-largest economy.

Japan’s logistics industry adopts blockchain payments

AZ-COM Maruwa Holdings plans to distribute payments using JPYC, Japan’s first officially registered yen-pegged stablecoin, to approximately 2,300 partner companies and independent contractors, including truck drivers.

The logistics company believes blockchain-based settlements will enable faster payments than conventional bank transfers, improving cash flow for contractors while making the company more attractive to logistics partners in an increasingly competitive labor market.

Japan’s trucking industry has been grappling with an aging workforce and tighter overtime regulations, increasing pressure on logistics providers to modernize payment infrastructure.

According to Nikkei, AZ-COM Maruwa is also considering investing approximately ¥1 billion (about $6.2 million) in JPYC Inc. alongside a broader strategic partnership, underscoring its long-term commitment to digital payment infrastructure.

“By offering faster payments through JPYC, AZ-COM Maruwa aims to attract more business partners and tackle the labor shortage issue,” — Nikkei Asia, as cited by The Block.

Why the announcement matters for crypto investors

For crypto investors, the significance extends far beyond a single corporate payment program.

Unlike speculative cryptocurrency trading, the announcement demonstrates real-world utility for blockchain infrastructure.

Stablecoins have primarily been associated with crypto exchanges, decentralized finance (DeFi), and cross-border settlements.

AZ-COM Maruwa’s initiative instead places stablecoins directly into enterprise payroll and contractor payments.

This represents one of Japan’s largest commercial deployments of a regulated yen-backed stablecoin and signals growing confidence among traditional businesses in blockchain-based financial infrastructure.

Since launching its regulated stablecoin operations, the company recently announced that on-chain circulation exceeded ¥2 billion, reflecting increasing adoption across Japan’s digital asset ecosystem.

Earlier this month, convenience store chain Lawson launched a pilot allowing customers to pay with JPYC, while Metaplanet Ventures invested approximately ¥400 million in JPYC Inc.’s Series B funding round.

Stablecoin competition is accelerating in Japan

Japan has quietly become one of the world’s most active regulated stablecoin markets.

Recent regulatory reforms have encouraged financial institutions and fintech companies to develop compliant digital payment products tied to the Japanese yen. Beyond JPYC, major financial groups are expanding their own initiatives.

SBI Group recently launched JPYSC, described as Japan’s first trust-bank-backed yen stablecoin, while banking giants MUFG, SMBC, and Mizuho have announced plans to begin commercial transactions using a jointly issued stablecoin during fiscal 2026.

For investors, this growing competition suggests Japan is positioning stablecoins as an integral component of domestic financial infrastructure rather than merely a crypto trading instrument.

What comes next

AZ-COM Maruwa’s decision could become a blueprint for other industries that rely on large contractor networks, including transportation, construction, manufacturing, and gig-economy services.

If successful, the initiative may encourage additional Japanese corporations to integrate blockchain-based payment systems into their treasury operations.

That would represent a meaningful shift from pilot projects toward enterprise-scale adoption, an area many crypto investors have long viewed as essential for sustainable digital asset growth.

While stablecoins continue attracting regulatory attention globally, Japan’s framework appears to be enabling practical commercial experimentation rather than limiting innovation.

For crypto markets, the story is less about price speculation and more about infrastructure adoption.

As institutional interest increasingly shifts toward real-world blockchain applications, corporate payment networks like AZ-COM Maruwa’s could become an important indicator of how digital assets evolve beyond trading and into everyday business operations.
