Coinbase integrates 1inch to offer decentralized token swaps across multiple DEXs

The Coinbase 1inch API integration is set to transform the trading experience within the Coinbase app enabling seamless non custodial token swaps powered by 1inch’s Swap API.

Scott Shapiro head of trading at Coinbase, said in a press release shared with crypto.news. The integration allows Coinbase app users to access onchain swaps from their self custodied wallets without leaving the platform.

1inch, a leading decentralized exchange aggregator, sources the best token swap rates across multiple DEXs. With the Coinbase 1inch API integration, users benefit from aggregated liquidity and optimal execution prices making decentralized trading as smooth as using Coinbase’s centralized platform.

According to Shapiro, this integration could bring “millions of our users onchain,” as the Coinbase app’s large user base gains direct access to decentralized liquidity. For 1inch, the Coinbase 1inch API integration marks it’s “most significant U.S. client to date” and supports its strategy of scaling its software as a service DeFi infrastructure for institutions and major platforms.

When asked about the benefits for traders, 1inch co-founder Sergej Kunz explained that the Coinbase 1inch API integration ensures users always receive the best available swap rates.

“Rather than being limited by the depth of a single DEX, users can access a huge network of aggregated liquidity which substantially mitigates the risk of price impact for large trades,” he said.

Coinbase expands into DeFi

Coinbase has been steadily developing decentralized trading features, including a dedicated self custodial wallet inside its app. The Coinbase 1inch API integration adds another layer to these efforts enhancing Coinbase’s decentralized trading ecosystem at a time when spot trading volumes on the exchange have declined contributing to a 26% revenue drop in Q2 2025.

This move aligns with Coinbase’s ambition of turning its app into a crypto super app capable of competing with traditional banks. As CEO Brian Armstrong said in a recent interview, Coinbase hopes to provide a full suite of financial services. The Coinbase 1inch API integration is a key step toward that goal giving users powerful DeFi tools while keeping them within the Coinbase ecosystem.
