The Homeland Party received significantly more Crypto donations than previously reported, according to a Byline Times investigation published on July 31.

Using archived webpages and blockchain analysis, the publication found the far-right UK political party accepted at least eight bitcoin donations worth approximately £1,300 across two cryptocurrency wallets after launching what it described as the country’s first political Crypto donations scheme in July 2024.

While there is no allegation that any laws were broken, the findings have reignited debate over transparency, donor verification, and the regulation of Crypto donations in British politics.

The investigation found that several donations were deliberately structured just below the £500 threshold that triggers donor permissibility checks under the UK’s Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act (PPERA). It also identified an earlier bitcoin wallet that had not previously been reported, substantially increasing the party’s known cryptocurrency income.

Crypto donations exceeded previously reported totals

The Homeland Party announced in July 2024 that it would become the first UK political party to accept Crypto donations, publishing a public bitcoin wallet address on its website.

Blockchain records reviewed by Byline Times show the first donation arrived on 27 July 2024, worth around £10. Three additional donations followed in October, valued at approximately £102, £114, and £22.

The two largest Crypto donations were received on 3 November and 29 November 2024, amounting to roughly £499 and £495 respectively. Both fell just below the £500 threshold at which UK law requires political parties to carry out donor permissibility checks.

According to the investigation, the party’s original wallet accumulated six bitcoin donations totaling approximately £1,242, far exceeding the roughly £27 in cryptocurrency that had previously been identified in public reporting.

The report also revealed that the Homeland Party later changed the wallet address displayed on its website without announcing the update publicly. The second wallet subsequently received two additional bitcoin payments, bringing the combined value of all identified Crypto donations to about £1,300.

Blockchain records reveal undisclosed wallet activity

Byline Times said it reconstructed the party’s fundraising history by examining archived versions of the Homeland Party’s website alongside publicly available blockchain data.

The investigation found that the original bitcoin wallet has never been spent from and still holds approximately 0.02110436 BTC, valued at around £1,000 at current prices. The publication noted that it is possible the party has lost access to the wallet, although no evidence confirming this was presented.

Meanwhile, the second wallet was reportedly emptied around May 2026, shortly after the Homeland Party announced it could no longer accept Crypto donations because of a government moratorium. Blockchain records indicate the balance was transferred to another party-controlled wallet, suggesting an internal movement of funds rather than an external transaction.

The report also highlighted that four of the eight identified donations originated from pooled wallet services, meaning the sending blockchain address belonged to an exchange or pooled service rather than directly identifying an individual donor.

As a result, the publication noted that it would have been difficult for the party to determine the identity of those donors using blockchain data alone.

Regulatory concerns surround Crypto donations

The findings emerge amid growing regulatory scrutiny of Crypto donations in UK politics.

According to the report, there is currently a government moratorium on cryptocurrency donations to political parties, with plans to formalize the restriction through the Representation of the People Bill.

The investigation also noted that, unlike some fundraising services that verify donor eligibility before forwarding funds to political parties, Homeland accepted bitcoin directly into wallets it controlled and did not use a third-party permissibility processor.

The timing of the two donations valued just under £500 has drawn particular attention.

The report stated:

“The two largest donations each landed within a few pounds of £500 – the threshold at which donor permissibility checks are triggered under the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act (PPERA).”

It added that if both contributions originated from the same individual, they would total approximately £994, exceeding the party’s own published limit for cryptocurrency contributions. However, the investigation also acknowledged that it was not possible to determine from publicly available blockchain records whether the two transactions came from the same donor.

No allegation of wrongdoing, but transparency questions remain

Despite uncovering additional Crypto donations, Byline Times emphasized that there is no allegation the Homeland Party broke any laws.

The publication concluded that the total cryptocurrency income remains relatively modest compared with traditional political fundraising. Nevertheless, it argued that the existence of a previously undiscovered wallet and multiple unreported donations raises broader questions about transparency in digital political finance.

The investigation further noted that archived webpages played a crucial role in identifying the original donation address after it had been removed from the party’s website.

Byline Times also reported that it contacted the Homeland Party for comment before publication.

As cryptocurrencies become increasingly integrated into political fundraising, the Homeland Party case highlights the challenges regulators face in balancing innovation with transparency.

While blockchain technology provides a permanent public ledger of transactions, identifying donors and ensuring compliance with political finance rules remains considerably more complex than with conventional payment methods.
