MEXC is ending service for users in Russia and Belarus, citing global compliance efforts, and will notify affected customers individually with deadlines to close positions and withdraw assets. The exchange says user funds remain safe.

MEXC service discontinuation: what affected users need to know

The exchange has indicated that the MEXC service discontinuation will be implemented through individual account notifications rather than a single publicly announced timetable for every affected customer.

In its official notice, MEXC stated that users  assets remain safe and secure. The assurance addresses a key concern for cryptocurrency traders: whether the policy change will prevent them from accessing funds held on the platform.

However, investors should distinguish the exchange’s statement about asset security from a guarantee that withdrawals will be completed immediately or without operational delays.

According to the announcement, customers affected by the decision will receive instructions covering the closure of positions and withdrawal procedures.

These communications will also specify the applicable timelines, making the individual notice particularly important for anyone who may need to reorganize their trading activity.

MEXC has also clarified that customers who have not received a termination notification are not affected by this particular change and may continue using the platform, subject to its existing terms of service.

Customers who are uncertain about their eligibility should contact MEXC through its official customer support channels rather than relying on unofficial messages or third-party claims.

Previous futures restrictions preceded the wider service exit

The MEXC service discontinuation follows earlier restrictions affecting selected futures trading pairs in Russia and Belarus, indicating that the latest announcement is not the exchange’s first adjustment to trading access in these markets.

In an earlier notice, MEXC announced limitations on selected futures contracts affecting users in Russia, Ukraine, Armenia and Belarus. Under those measures, customers in the named jurisdictions could no longer open new positions in the specified contracts after the restrictions took effect.

The earlier rules were narrower than the latest announcement. They targeted particular futures trading pairs rather than announcing the discontinuation of services for users in Russia and Belarus more broadly.

A restriction on opening new futures positions may leave some existing account functions available, whereas a wider service exit can require customers to reconsider their overall dependence on the platform.

Traders using leverage, automated trading strategies or multiple open positions should pay particular attention to account-specific instructions. They should not assume that procedures applicable under earlier futures restrictions will necessarily govern the current withdrawal process.

The new policy also does not identify a specific government order, regulator or sanctions designation as its direct cause. MEXC has described the move as part of its ongoing global compliance efforts, without publicly attributing the decision to one particular regulatory action.

MEXC service discontinuation raises security concerns for investors

Beyond the immediate account restrictions, the MEXC service discontinuation highlights the operational risks investors face when their preferred cryptocurrency exchange changes its regional access policies.

Even when digital assets remain recorded in an exchange account, customers may need to close positions, manage outstanding orders and arrange withdrawals within a specified period. These requirements can become especially important for traders holding volatile assets or maintaining leveraged positions.

Investors should begin by checking their registered email address, the official MEXC application and the platform’s announcement centre for notices about their accounts. Any stated deadline should be treated as account-specific unless the exchange explicitly publishes a general timetable.

Customers should also review their open positions, outstanding orders and withdrawal arrangements. Where a transfer is necessary, they should verify the receiving wallet address, confirm network compatibility and check any applicable withdrawal fees or limits before initiating a transaction.

Security is another concern during periods of account restrictions. Scammers may exploit uncertainty by impersonating exchange employees, circulating fraudulent withdrawal links or claiming that users must pay additional fees to unlock their assets.

The MEXC service discontinuation also reinforces the importance of understanding the terms governing an exchange account, including regional eligibility requirements and the procedures that apply when access is restricted.

What the MEXC service discontinuation means for crypto investors

For affected customers, the immediate implications of the MEXC service discontinuation are practical rather than speculative. They need to confirm their account status, understand the withdrawal process and determine how the changes affect their trading positions.

Investors outside Russia and Belarus should not automatically assume that their accounts are affected by this announcement.

The announcement also leaves several questions unanswered. MEXC has not disclosed the total number of affected accounts, established one public deadline for all withdrawals or identified a specific regulatory order behind the decision.

Until then, affected users should follow the instructions contained in their official account notifications and seek clarification from the exchange where necessary. They should also retain relevant transaction records and confirmation messages throughout the withdrawal process.
