Prosecutors say Kishu Inu founder secretly pocketed $9 million in hidden tokens

Federal prosecutors accuse Alexander Sisemore of misleading cryptocurrency investors about insider token allocations and secretly selling holdings as Kishu Inu grew into a billion-dollar digital asset.

Prosecutors say the creator of Kishu Inu told investors no tokens were reserved for the team while secretly selling his own, netting about $9 million. Alexander Sisemore, 28, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, was indicted on October 6, 2026 on three counts of wire fraud, the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois announced on October 7.

Investigators allege that these representations concealed a different arrangement, in which the founders controlled substantial portions of the token supply before public sales began. Prosecutors contend that the alleged misrepresentations encouraged investors to purchase and hold Kishu Inu while insiders sold their holdings for personal gain.

The case places renewed attention on transparency in cryptocurrency launches, particularly projects marketed as decentralized communities without significant insider ownership. If convicted, Sisemore could face up to 20 years in prison on each of the three wire fraud counts, although any sentence would depend on applicable law and sentencing guidelines.

How Kishu Inu’s alleged Memecoin Rug Pull unfolded

Kishu Inu launched in April 2021 and subsequently attracted approximately 283,000 holders, according to the case details. Its market capitalization eventually surpassed $1.6 billion, making it a prominent example of the speculative enthusiasm that surrounded meme-based cryptocurrencies during that period.

A white paper published in May 2021 described the project as a community-driven initiative.

The document stated: “A community-owned project with no tokens reserved for the team. Therefore, it runs primarily on volunteers and donations from the community.”

Prosecutors allege that this description was misleading because the founders had already arranged substantial token allocations for themselves. The indictment contends that investors were given the impression that the developers held only 1.7% of the available tokens and had acquired their holdings through purchases.

The alleged Memecoin Rug Pull centered on the discrepancy between those public assurances and the founders’ purported control over the cryptocurrency’s supply. According to investigators, the representations helped sustain investor confidence, token prices and market liquidity while the founders disposed of their holdings.

The allegations cover a period beginning in April 2021 and continuing until at least October 2023. During that time, prosecutors say, statements about the project’s ownership circulated through websites, project documentation and social media platforms, including Telegram, Twitter, Facebook and Reddit.

A rug pull generally describes a cryptocurrency scheme in which developers attract buyers through promises or representations about a project before allegedly extracting value in ways that harm investors. However, the term itself does not establish criminal liability, and the allegations against Sisemore must be tested through the legal process.

Hidden token allocations form the core of the fraud allegations

The indictment describes an arrangement in which another Kishu Inu founder allegedly distributed 12% of the cryptocurrency’s total token supply between himself and Sisemore before public sales.

According to prosecutors, 6% of the supply was transferred to four wallets controlled by Sisemore, while another 6% was placed in wallets controlled by the other founder. Authorities argue that these allocations contradicted the project’s public claims about the limited holdings of its developers.

The alleged undisclosed ownership is central to the prosecution’s case because investors may assess a cryptocurrency differently when they know that founders control a significant share of its supply. Large insider holdings can create the possibility of substantial selling pressure, particularly when a token’s price depends heavily on investor demand and confidence.

Prosecutors further allege that Sisemore and the other founder concealed their sales by moving tokens through multiple cryptocurrency wallets and using crypto mixers. These services can complicate the tracing of digital-asset transactions by combining or obfuscating transfers.

The charging documents identify three trades conducted through the Gate.io cryptocurrency exchange as part of the investigation. Authorities estimate that Sisemore generated approximately $9 million from the alleged scheme, while the other founder reportedly earned around $800,000.

The government is seeking forfeiture of proceeds associated with the alleged offenses if Sisemore is convicted. Such a measure would be intended to recover assets connected to the alleged criminal activity, subject to the applicable legal process.

The case illustrates how blockchain transactions, exchange records and statements made to investors can become central evidence in cryptocurrency fraud investigations. Although public blockchains record transactions, investigators may need additional evidence to connect wallet activity to particular individuals and establish whether transactions formed part of an alleged deceptive scheme.

Federal wire fraud charges carry significant potential penalties

Sisemore faces three counts of wire fraud, each carrying a maximum potential prison sentence of 20 years. The charges relate to allegations that communications and representations transmitted through electronic channels were used to deceive investors.

The maximum penalty does not mean that Sisemore will automatically receive a 60-year sentence if convicted on all counts. Actual sentencing would depend on the convictions, federal sentencing rules, the circumstances of the offenses and other legally relevant factors.

The alleged Memecoin Rug Pull investigation also forms part of a broader pattern of U.S. cryptocurrency prosecutions involving claims about token ownership, project operations and the use of investor funds.

One prominent comparison is the SafeMoon case, in which prosecutors brought fraud charges against individuals associated with the cryptocurrency project in 2023.

Those allegations involved claims about trading liquidity and the handling of funds, including accusations that developers improperly diverted assets.

Former SafeMoon chief technology officer Thomas Smith pleaded guilty to fraud conspiracies in February 2025, according to the report cited in the original coverage.

In another case, a jury convicted Block Bits co-founder Japheth Dillman in August over an operation that raised approximately $960,000 through claims about an automated cryptocurrency trading system that prosecutors said did not work as represented.

These cases involve distinct allegations and legal proceedings, but they highlight the scrutiny that cryptocurrency promoters can face when their public claims differ from their actual business practices.

For investors, the Kishu Inu prosecution underscores the importance of examining token distribution, founder holdings and project disclosures rather than relying exclusively on community-growth claims or rising market valuations.

FBI seeks information from Kishu Inu investors

Federal investigators are seeking information from Kishu Inu purchasers and other individuals who may have relevant knowledge of the alleged Memecoin Rug Pull. The FBI has established a voluntary questionnaire through which potential victims can provide details about their involvement with the cryptocurrency.

The information could help investigators identify affected investors, establish the extent of potential losses and gather additional evidence relevant to the allegations.

Investors who believe they were affected can consult the FBI’s official questionnaire at https://forms.fbi.gov/victims/KishuInvestors/view. Those submitting information should provide accurate details about their transactions and retain relevant records, including exchange statements, wallet addresses, transaction hashes and communications relating to their purchases.

The case also raises questions about how cryptocurrency projects communicate ownership arrangements to prospective buyers.

When founders publicly emphasize community control or limited insider holdings, the accuracy of those statements can influence investor decisions and perceptions of risk.

For regulators and law enforcement agencies, the allegations demonstrate the importance of investigating whether project disclosures accurately reflect token ownership and whether founders’ transactions are consistent with their public representations.

The prosecution has not established Sisemore’s guilt. The charges remain allegations, and he is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.

As the investigation proceeds, the evidence surrounding Kishu Inu’s early token allocations, alleged concealed sales and communications with investors will be central to determining whether the project’s founders engaged in the fraud prosecutors describe.

The outcome could provide further insight into how federal authorities pursue alleged misconduct involving meme coins, insider token distributions and cryptocurrency transactions across multiple wallets and exchanges.
