Stablecoin supply has shrunk by $17 billion since April, yet Solana users just spent a record $141 million through stablecoin-funded cards in October, roughly seven times last year’s figure. The split shows crypto’s dollar liquidity thinning for traders while payment use keeps growing.

Total stablecoin market capitalization fell 6% to $263 billion from $280 billion, AMBCrypto reported on November 3, as Binance’s USDT reserves dropped 7.8% over 30 days.

Stablecoin supply declines as crypto market liquidity tightens

The global stablecoin market has experienced a notable contraction in recent months, reflecting changes in the availability of dollar-pegged digital assets across the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

According to the report, the combined market capitalization of stablecoins stood at approximately $280 billion in April before declining to $263 billion.

The $17 billion reduction represents a 6% decrease over the period, indicating that fewer dollar-pegged tokens are circulating across the market than earlier in the year.

Stablecoins serve several functions within cryptocurrency markets, including facilitating trading, transferring funds between platforms, and providing access to dollar-denominated assets without using traditional banking channels for every transaction.

They are also frequently used by traders to maintain liquidity while moving between cryptocurrencies or temporarily reducing exposure to volatile assets.

A contraction in stablecoin supply can therefore attract attention from market participants monitoring the availability of capital for cryptocurrency transactions.

However, a decline in circulating stablecoins does not automatically establish that investors are withdrawing from the market.

Changes in supply can also reflect token redemptions, issuer activity, and shifts in demand for dollar-pegged assets.

The latest figures nevertheless suggest that liquidity conditions have become less favorable compared with April.

For cryptocurrency exchanges, reduced stablecoin balances can affect the amount of readily available capital that traders can deploy into digital assets.

The developments are particularly relevant to Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other widely traded cryptocurrencies that depend partly on stablecoin trading pairs.

While the decline does not establish a direct cause of cryptocurrency price movements, it provides an additional indicator of changing market conditions.

Binance USDT reserves fall 7.8% in 30 days

The broader contraction has coincided with a decline in Tether holdings on cryptocurrency exchange Binance.

According to the AMBCrypto report, Binance’s USDT reserves decreased by approximately 7.8% over the preceding 30 days.

The reduction highlights changing stablecoin balances at one of the industry’s largest cryptocurrency trading platforms.

Exchange reserves represent digital assets held in wallets associated with a trading platform, providing an indication of funds available within its infrastructure.

A decline in these balances can result from customer withdrawals, transfers to other platforms, redemptions, or other changes in asset distribution.

Consequently, lower exchange reserves do not necessarily mean that the same amount of capital has permanently left the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Nevertheless, the reported reduction in Binance’s holdings adds to concerns about tightening market liquidity.

The relationship between stablecoin supply and exchange reserves is important because the two indicators measure different aspects of cryptocurrency market activity.

Total circulating supply captures the broader quantity of stablecoins outstanding, while exchange reserves indicate how much is held on specific trading platforms.

Both measures can influence assessments of available liquidity, although neither independently determines future cryptocurrency prices.

For market observers, the decline in USDT reserves provides additional context for the wider reduction in stablecoin market capitalization.

It also contrasts with developments on Solana, where stablecoin-related payment activity has continued expanding despite weaker liquidity indicators elsewhere.

Solana card spending surges despite falling stablecoin supply

While global liquidity indicators have weakened, Solana has recorded substantial growth in stablecoin-funded card payments.

According to data tracked by Paymentscan, monthly card spending settled on the blockchain reached approximately $141 million in October 2026, setting a new record.

The figure represents a roughly sevenfold increase compared with October 2025, when spending was approximately $20 million.

It also marks continued growth from the beginning of 2026, when monthly spending crossed the $50 million threshold.

The October total exceeded September’s previous record of approximately $113.9 million, representing a further increase of about 24%.

The figures suggest that Solana-based stablecoins are increasingly being used to support payment transactions rather than being held exclusively for trading or transfers between cryptocurrency wallets.

Unlike speculative cryptocurrency transactions, stablecoin card payments can connect blockchain-based balances to spending through payment card programs.

This creates an additional use case for stablecoins as a means of funding purchases.

The increase in card spending demonstrates that a reduction in global stablecoin supply does not necessarily translate into weaker activity across every blockchain network.

Solana’s payment activity has expanded even as the overall stablecoin market has contracted.

However, the $141 million figure measures reported stablecoin-linked card settlement volume, not necessarily the number of individual consumer purchases.

Some payment programs aggregate multiple card transactions into blockchain settlement batches, meaning the on-chain figures should not be interpreted as a direct count of retail transactions.

The record also does not establish how many unique individuals are using stablecoin-funded cards.

Nevertheless, the consistent increase in monthly spending indicates growing activity among the payment programs tracked on Solana.

Stablecoin supply trends reveal changing crypto demand

The contrast between declining market-wide stablecoin balances and rising Solana card spending highlights the different roles digital dollars play within cryptocurrency markets.

Historically, much of the attention surrounding stablecoins has focused on their use in cryptocurrency trading, exchange settlements, and transfers between digital asset platforms.

However, payment-related activity is becoming another measurable part of their adoption.

Solana’s October record suggests that stablecoins are gaining traction within card-based payment infrastructure, even as broader market conditions remain uncertain.

The growth may also indicate that some users and payment providers are increasingly relying on blockchain networks to settle transactions involving dollar-pegged tokens.

Still, higher card spending does not automatically imply equivalent growth in the number of stablecoins circulating on the network.

The same tokens can be transferred or spent repeatedly, allowing transaction volume to increase without a proportional rise in outstanding balances.

This distinction is important when evaluating stablecoin supply alongside payment activity.

A network can experience stronger payment usage while its stablecoin holdings remain stable or decline, depending on how frequently existing assets circulate.

The reported October figures therefore provide evidence of increased payment settlement activity, rather than proof of an equivalent expansion in Solana’s circulating stablecoin balances.

Likewise, the record does not guarantee increased demand for SOL or future appreciation in the token’s price.

Payment activity may support blockchain usage, but its effect on the network’s native token depends on factors such as transaction fees, network operations, and broader market conditions.

For investors and analysts, the developments illustrate why changes in total stablecoin market capitalization should be considered alongside transaction activity and real-world payment adoption.

The latest figures show that stablecoin supply has contracted globally while Solana’s stablecoin card spending has continued setting records.

With the market capitalization of stablecoins standing near $263 billion and Solana processing approximately $141 million in card-related spending during October, the two indicators point to an evolving market in which liquidity conditions and payment usage are moving in different directions.

The broader significance will depend on whether Solana can sustain its payment growth and whether the global stablecoin market experiences renewed expansion in the coming months.

For now, the divergence demonstrates that weakening trading liquidity does not necessarily prevent blockchain-based payment activity from growing.
