On October 1, 2025, the BNB Chain X account hacker compromised the blockchain project’s verified English-language social media handle, tricking users into clicking malicious phishing links. The breach occurred around 05:30 UTC, when the attacker posted multiple fraudulent messages advertising a fake airdrop event for BNB holders.
The hacker’s scheme involved at least 10 separate posts containing wallet-draining links. According to Binance’s post-mortem report, the damages reached approximately $8,000, with the largest individual loss amounting to about $6,500.
At 08:30 UTC, Binance’s security team confirmed that they had regained control of the compromised account. “The root cause of the hack is still under investigation,” the company stated, promising that victims would be fully compensated for their losses.
The BNB Chain X account hacker did not stop at phishing. He redirected part of the stolen funds into a little-known meme coin called “4”, which had been largely dormant in the market for about a year.
After seeding the token with stolen assets, the BNB Chain X account hacker orchestrated a pump-and-dump scheme, cashing out for an estimated $22,000 profit. Initially, the rugpull appeared to mark the end of the story. Instead, it sparked an unusual community response.
According to blockchain analytics platform pump.fun, the “4” token surged by over 500% in value within hours, reaching a market capitalization of nearly $19,400 and a 24-hour trading volume of $57,400. At its peak, the token rose 185% in just one hour before eventually stabilizing.
Former Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao noted the irony of the situation.

Instead of letting the rugpulled project collapse, traders across the BNB ecosystem collectively began buying into the “4” token, effectively turning the scam against the scammer. Social media users celebrated the move, framing it as a symbolic victory over the BNB Chain X account hacker.
LCZ described the reaction as the “funniest comeback,” emphasizing that after the attacker’s exit, there were no tokens left in his wallet. The rally was purely driven by the community.
Data confirms that the token hit what analysts call a “golden candle” — a sudden surge caused by collective buying pressure. Although its market cap remained modest, the trading activity demonstrated the crypto sector’s capacity to transform exploits into satirical financial events.
Following the incident, Binance reiterated that the BNB Chain X account hacker caused limited financial damage compared to previous industry breaches. Nonetheless, the company acknowledged the seriousness of the compromise.
“The team promised to fully compensate victims of the hack who lost their funds in the process,” Binance’s report stated. The Chinese-language version of BNB Chain’s account also confirmed that an “unidentified third party” had been behind the attack.
While the financial fallout was relatively minor at $8,000 in total damages, the hack once again highlighted the risks of centralized social media accounts being used as attack vectors in the crypto industry.
