Hotlotz, the Singapore auction house handling asset disposal from one of the country’s largest money laundering cases, has begun selling 624 seized luxury handbags and jewellery pieces online, with bidding opening Sept. 7, 2026.

Luxury assets from the money laundering case enter global auction

The scale of the first sales gives buyers a glimpse into the extraordinary collection of luxury property accumulated by individuals convicted in the investigation.

Among the most notable items is a limited-edition Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama Pumpkin Bag, originally estimated by Hotlotz at S$12,000 to S$16,000. A 15.02-carat fancy yellow diamond ring is another major attraction, with an estimated value of S$200,000 to S$300,000.

Other pieces include Chanel accessories, Dior handbags, an Hermès diamond bracelet and jewellery from Bulgari and Van Cleef & Arpels. Hotlotz has also confirmed that later auctions will feature additional Hermès handbags and watches from prestigious brands including Patek Philippe, Richard Mille and Rolex.

The early response has already demonstrated strong interest. Channel NewsAsia reported that the Louis Vuitton Kusama bag had attracted bids well above its initial estimate, while the yellow diamond ring was also drawing substantial interest.

Hotlotz co-founder and director of auctions Christopher Lanigan O’Keeffe said the response had been “overwhelmingly good,” adding that the public had been anticipating what would happen to the assets for years.

The auction house is conducting the sales entirely online. International buyers can participate, but registration and identity verification are required. Physical inspections are available by appointment at Le Freeport in Singapore, while walk-in viewing and telephone or agent bidding are not permitted.

Why the money laundering case produced billions in assets

The auctions trace their origins to massive police raids carried out across Singapore in August 2023.

Authorities arrested 10 foreign nationals suspected of laundering proceeds connected to overseas organised crime and illicit gambling activities. All 10 were subsequently convicted and received prison sentences ranging from 13 to 17 months. Singapore Police said approximately S$944 million in assets linked to those individuals was ultimately surrendered to the state.

The investigation expanded beyond those initial arrests. Singapore authorities also pursued 17 other foreign nationals who were outside the country, with 15 cases eventually resolved through agreements to surrender approximately S$1.85 billion in assets.

By the end of 2024, Singapore Police reported that approximately S$2.8 billion worth of assets connected to 25 individuals had been ordered surrendered to the state. Those assets included money in bank accounts, real estate, vehicles and luxury goods.

The assets now reaching auction therefore represent only one component of a far larger recovery effort.

Deloitte Singapore was appointed by the Singapore Police Force in July 2025 to manage and realise the non-cash assets. According to Deloitte, the programme involves more than 80 properties and more than 1,000 luxury items, with sales being conducted progressively as authentication and preparation work is completed.

USDT transactions add a crypto dimension

While the money laundering case was not exclusively a cryptocurrency investigation, court and police records show that digital assets played a role in some of the financial activity surrounding convicted individuals.

One example involved former Citibank relationship manager Wang Qiming. Singapore Police said Wang helped convicted offender Su Baolin arrange the sale of 1,499,980 units of USDT for Singapore dollars in December 2020.

According to police, the transactions included a tranche of 499,980 USDT that generated S$657,980 and another 364,908 USDT transaction that produced S$481,678 in cash. Wang subsequently received a 24-month prison sentence after being convicted of offences including money laundering and the fraudulent use of documents. Police said the cash was reasonably suspected to represent benefits from unlawful remote gambling.

Su Baolin was separately sentenced to 14 months in prison in 2024. Court proceedings revealed allegations involving large amounts of suspected criminal proceeds, including cash and a vehicle, while investigators also found that gambling winnings had been transferred to his cryptocurrency wallet in USDT.

The cryptocurrency link illustrates how stablecoins can appear within broader illicit-finance investigations without being the sole mechanism through which funds are moved.

Singapore turns seized wealth into public auction proceeds

The latest auctions show that Singapore’s response to the money laundering case is moving beyond arrests, convictions and asset seizures toward the actual realisation of forfeited wealth.

Hotlotz will conduct 15 online auctions between September 2026 and May 2027. Meanwhile, separate real-estate firms have begun marketing forfeited properties, including luxury apartments in prime Singapore locations. Deloitte said the assets will be sold in phases, with the precise composition of later sales subject to authentication and preparation.

For the cryptocurrency industry, the process is notable because the underlying investigation demonstrates how digital assets, traditional banking, luxury goods and illicit gambling proceeds can intersect within sophisticated financial networks.

It also highlights the increasingly important role of asset recovery after financial-crime convictions. Rather than leaving forfeited wealth dormant, Singapore is converting properties, jewellery, vehicles and luxury collectibles into saleable assets through formal channels.

The first 624 lots are therefore more than a luxury auction. They are the visible beginning of the final financial chapter of one of Singapore’s largest financial-crime investigations, with thousands of future bidders potentially becoming the next owners of assets once linked to the money laundering case.
