Bitcoin BRC-20 trades push NFT sales to $46.8 million while buyer addresses collapse 85%

Bitcoin’s surge was driven by a handful of multimillion-dollar BRC-20 transactions, highlighting how concentrated the NFT market remains despite the weekly rebound.

NFT Sales climbed 6.8% to approximately $46.78 million during the seven days ending Sept. 12, according to CryptoSlam data, marking a modest recovery even as participation metrics painted a much weaker picture.

The weekly increase was not broad-based across the market. Ethereum remained the largest blockchain by sales volume at $16.83 million, while Bitcoin jumped 50.12% to $9.44 million. Much of Bitcoin’s increase came from several unusually large BRC-20 transactions.

At the same time, CryptoSlam recorded just 41,959 buyer addresses, an 84.67% decline from the preceding seven-day period. Seller addresses fell 85.13% to 43,247. Transactions, however, moved sharply in the opposite direction, increasing 48.75% to 917,549.

The divergence suggests that the headline recovery needs to be viewed cautiously. CryptoSlam counts blockchain addresses rather than verified individual people, meaning the figures do not establish how many unique humans participated in the market.

Ethereum remains the largest NFT Sales blockchain

Ethereum retained its position as the largest blockchain by weekly sales, generating approximately $16.83 million. However, the figure represented a 6.36% decline from the previous seven-day period.

The network recorded 8,271 buyer addresses, down 79.37%. CryptoSlam also showed approximately $794,730 in wash-trading volume on Ethereum. That amount is reported separately from sales and should not be added to the organic sales figure.

Bitcoin provided the biggest positive surprise among the major networks.

Its $9.44 million in sales represented a 50.12% weekly increase, pushing it into second place. Yet Bitcoin’s buyer addresses also dropped substantially, falling 82.79% to 2,255.

That combination is important. Bitcoin generated considerably more dollar volume without a corresponding expansion in its recorded buyer base. The explanation becomes clearer when the individual transactions are examined: several high-value BRC-20 trades accounted for a significant share of the network’s weekly activity.

Polygon ranked third with $7.71 million, representing a 7.73% increase. It recorded 13,888 buyer addresses, down 85.34%, while its dashboard showed $17.11 million in wash-trading volume.

BNB Chain followed with $4.02 million, up 25.99%. Base recorded $2.48 million, down 35.34%, while Solana posted $2.30 million, a 32.91% increase.

Together, Ethereum, Bitcoin, Polygon, BNB Chain, Base and Solana generated roughly $42.78 million of the $46.78 million global total.

The numbers underline a broader characteristic of the current market: headline volume can move significantly even when the number of participating addresses falls.

Courtyard leads NFT collections despite changing market dynamics

At the collection level, Polygon-based Courtyard topped the weekly rankings with approximately $6.67 million in sales, an 8.46% increase from the previous period.

The collection generated 104,404 transactions, involving 16,253 buyer addresses and 14,268 seller addresses. Transactions increased 9.98%, while buyer addresses declined 14.60%.

Courtyard’s model also makes its activity different from the speculative BRC-20 trades that dominated Bitcoin’s largest transactions. The platform is associated with tokenized ownership of physical collectibles, giving its high transaction count a different structure from collections where a few large transfers account for most of the weekly volume.

Ethereum-based Argonauts ranked second with $4.36 million in sales, more than doubling its previous weekly figure with a 109.04% increase.

The collection recorded 2,331 transactions and 656 buyer addresses. Despite the surge in dollar volume, transactions declined 25.14% and buyer addresses fell 21.72%, again showing that higher sales values do not necessarily mean broader participation.

The Bitcoin-based $X@AI BRC-20 NFTs collection came third with $2.90 million. Its weekly sales jumped 217.88%, but that figure came from only nine transactions involving seven buyer addresses.

One transaction alone was worth $2.10 million, representing roughly 72% of the collection’s weekly sales.

That concentration is crucial when interpreting the latest NFT Sales figures. CryptoSlam classifies these transfers as NFT sales, but the data alone does not establish whether they represent broad consumer demand for digital collectibles.

Bitcoin BRC-20 trades dominate the biggest sales

Bitcoin’s influence becomes even clearer in the ranking of the largest individual transactions.

All five of the biggest NFT sales displayed by CryptoSlam during the seven-day period were Bitcoin-based BRC-20 NFTs.

The largest was a $X@AI BRC-20 NFT that changed hands for approximately $2.10 million, equivalent to 26.2326 BTC. A $X@AGI BRC-20 NFT followed with a transaction worth approximately $1.14 million, or 14.3755 BTC.

Another $X@AGI NFT sold for approximately $574,078, equivalent to 7.1817 BTC. A further $X@AI transaction was valued at $401,685, while another $X@AI NFT sold for approximately $395,776.

Combined, the five transactions were worth about $4.61 million.

That represents almost half of Bitcoin’s $9.44 million weekly sales total, illustrating just how heavily a small number of large transfers influenced the blockchain’s performance.

The concentration also offers an important counterpoint to the broader recovery. While total NFT Sales increased during the week, the market did not necessarily experience a proportional return of everyday buyers.

Animoca Brands chairman and co-founder Yat Siu has previously argued that NFTs should be viewed through the broader lens of digital ownership rather than simply as speculative collectibles. He has described NFTs as “digital stores of culture that we can then transform,” while arguing that blockchain can provide stronger mechanisms for digital property rights.

That perspective is increasingly relevant as the market expands beyond traditional profile-picture collections into tokenized physical assets, gaming items, financial positions and Bitcoin-based inscriptions.

For now, the Sept. 12 data presents a mixed picture. NFT Sales are higher week over week, Bitcoin is gaining ground and several collections recorded substantial increases. But the steep decline in buyer and seller addresses, combined with the outsized contribution from a handful of high-value transactions, suggests the rebound remains concentrated.

The market is therefore showing more dollar activity, but not necessarily a broad return of buyers.
