Euro stablecoin market crosses $900 million as Solana and Base chip away at Ethereum’s 71% lead

The surge highlights growing demand for euro-denominated digital assets while Ethereum continues to command the largest share of liquidity.

The Euro stablecoin market has moved beyond the $900 million mark, putting euro-denominated digital assets under a brighter spotlight as blockchain networks compete to attract liquidity and users. Ethereum accounts for roughly $644 million of the market, or about 71%, while Solana and Base have emerged as the next-largest networks with approximately $122 million and $59 million, respectively.

The figures point to a market that is expanding beyond a single blockchain ecosystem. While Ethereum remains firmly ahead, the presence of meaningful euro-stablecoin supply on Solana and Base suggests issuers and users are increasingly willing to deploy these assets across different networks.

The latest figures were reported by crypto data commentator @tokenterminal and subsequently circulated in crypto-market coverage. Independent reporting earlier in September also showed rapid expansion in the sector, with the total market estimated at about $835 million in mid-August and Ethereum holding approximately 69.5% at that time.

Ethereum still commands the market

Ethereum’s position is the clearest feature of the latest data.

With approximately $644 million in euro-pegged stablecoin capitalization, Ethereum represents about 71% of the reported $900 million-plus market. That concentration gives the network a substantial lead over competing chains, although recent data indicates that its share can change as issuers move tokens between ecosystems.

A September analysis placed Ethereum’s euro-stablecoin share at roughly 69.5%, with Solana at 14.8% and Base at 6.9%. Together, the three networks accounted for approximately 91.5% of the market at that point.

That makes the latest figures notable not simply because the market has crossed another numerical milestone, but because they show how quickly the distribution of euro-denominated liquidity can evolve.

Ethereum’s established developer ecosystem, deep liquidity and extensive decentralized-finance infrastructure have helped make it an important home for stablecoins. However, the growing presence of competing networks means future expansion may not necessarily translate into Ethereum capturing all of the additional supply.

Solana and Base build their positions

Solana’s reported $122 million and Base’s $59 million provide evidence of a more diversified Euro stablecoin ecosystem.

The development is important because blockchain selection can influence transaction costs, speed, liquidity and access to decentralized applications. Base, a layer-2 network built on Ethereum, has increasingly become part of the stablecoin infrastructure landscape, while Solana has established itself as a major venue for on-chain activity.

Earlier reporting also showed euro stablecoin supply spreading across several networks and identified Ethereum, Solana and Base as the dominant trio.

The broader market remains heavily dependent on a relatively small number of euro-denominated tokens. Circle’s EURC and Société Générale Forge’s EURCV have been particularly important to the expansion of the sector. Research published in 2026 showed that euro-denominated stablecoins were still small compared with dollar-based alternatives, despite their rapid growth.

That distinction matters. Crossing $900 million is significant for the euro segment, but it remains a fraction of the overall stablecoin market, which continues to be dominated by U.S.-dollar tokens.

Regulation adds another layer

The growth of Euro stablecoin supply is also unfolding alongside a major regulatory shift in Europe.

The European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, or MiCA, has established requirements for stablecoin issuers operating within the bloc. That framework has helped create clearer rules around reserves, authorization and consumer protections while raising the compliance requirements for issuers.

The European Central Bank has acknowledged that properly designed and regulated euro-denominated stablecoins can offer benefits in areas such as programmability, atomic settlement and cross-border payments. At the same time, the Eurosystem has warned that wider stablecoin adoption can have implications for financial stability, monetary sovereignty and payment systems.

ECB Executive Board member Piero Cipollone has also emphasized the rapidly changing payments landscape. In March, he said, “Payments are critical for society, and they are changing rapidly.”

That evolution is occurring alongside preparations for the proposed digital euro. The ECB says it aims to be ready for potential first issuance during 2029, assuming the necessary legislation is adopted. The central bank has also selected 36 payment service providers for a digital-euro pilot scheduled for the second half of 2027.

Importantly, a digital euro would not be the same thing as a private Euro stablecoin. The ECB describes the digital euro as central bank money, while stablecoins are privately issued assets whose stability depends on their reserves and issuer arrangements.

What traders will watch next

The next phase of the Euro stablecoin market could increasingly revolve around distribution rather than simply total capitalization.

Ethereum’s ability to retain its leading share will be closely watched as Solana, Base and other networks compete for stablecoin liquidity. A rise in total supply could also create more opportunities for euro-denominated decentralized finance, payments, foreign-exchange markets and cross-border settlement.

There are already signs that euro stablecoins are finding a foothold in decentralized finance. A recent report found that about $76.6 million of EURC was deposited across 20 DeFi protocols, with Aave V3 accounting for roughly 70.9% of those deposits.

For traders, the important signal is therefore not simply that the market has passed $900 million. The more consequential question is whether the growth develops into deeper liquidity, broader utility and sustained demand across multiple blockchain networks.

If the latest expansion continues, the Euro stablecoin sector could become a more visible part of the digital-asset market, even as dollar-denominated stablecoins retain their much larger global footprint.
