SwissBorg, eToro and LCX form Eurøpe Consortium to push MiCA-compliant EURØP stablecoin into mainstream use

The Swiss crypto platform is joining a new industry consortium seeking to turn regulated euro stablecoins from a compliance milestone into widely used on-chain financial infrastructure.

SwissBorg has joined the newly formed Eurøpe Consortium as a founding member, putting its retail distribution network behind EURØP, the MiCA-regulated euro stablecoin issued by Schuman Financial. Europe has the rules for compliant stablecoins. The consortium is trying to solve the harder problem: getting people to use them.

The group also includes eToro and LCX. It aims to make regulated euro digital assets practical for trading, payments and financial applications.

What makes EURØP different

EURØP is structured as an electronic money token under MiCA, meaning it belongs to the regulatory category covering crypto-assets designed to maintain a stable value against a single official currency.

The token is issued by Schuman Financial, which operates through Salvus SAS, a French electronic money institution authorized and supervised by France’s Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution, or ACPR. Schuman says each token is backed one-to-one by euro reserves, with an additional 2% reserve fund designed to provide an extra layer of protection.

The reserve structure is also subject to independent verification. KPMG conducts quarterly attestations covering the amount of EURØP in circulation and the corresponding reserves, while Schuman says reserves are held with regulated European financial institutions including Société Générale.

The stablecoin has also expanded beyond a single blockchain. Schuman’s current documentation lists Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon, Solana, XRPL and Plasma among the networks supporting the token. That multi-chain footprint gives users and financial platforms more options for moving euro-denominated value across different blockchain ecosystems.

SwissBorg’s relationship with the token predates the consortium

SwissBorg’s involvement is not a completely new development. The platform added EURØP in December 2025, describing it as a fully backed euro stablecoin designed to provide regulated access to euro-denominated digital assets. SwissBorg highlighted the token’s 1:1 euro backing, additional 2% reserve, KPMG audits and banking relationships at the time.

The company subsequently moved its European operations toward a French regulatory structure. In June 2026, SwissBorg said users in the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom would transition to BlockNodes SAS, its French subsidiary authorized as a crypto-asset service provider by France’s financial regulator, the Autorité des marchés financiers.

SwissBorg also introduced a loyalty initiative around euro stablecoin deposits. Users could receive BORG rewards while retaining access to their deposits without a conventional lock-up period. Importantly, those rewards were paid in BORG rather than euros, meaning the reward itself remained exposed to fluctuations in the value of SwissBorg’s native token.

That distinction matters for users assessing the economics of the programme. A euro stablecoin may be designed to maintain a stable value against the euro, but rewards denominated in another crypto-asset do not carry the same stability.

Consortium puts distribution at the center

The formation of the Eurøpe Consortium reflects a broader realization across the European crypto sector: getting a regulated stablecoin approved is only the first step.

The next challenge is liquidity, distribution and actual usage.

The consortium’s initial focus is expected to span access and distribution, infrastructure integrations, practical retail and institutional applications, and broader market development. Its members can contribute through exchanges, brokerage platforms, wallets, custody infrastructure or other parts of the digital-asset stack.

That makes SwissBorg’s participation particularly relevant. The platform already supports EURØP, giving the consortium a direct connection to an established retail crypto audience rather than relying exclusively on future integrations.

For Schuman Financial, the partnership also provides another channel for increasing the circulation and utility of its euro token. The company’s wider strategy is to position EURØP as infrastructure for payments, trading, decentralized finance and on-chain foreign exchange rather than simply another exchange-listed stablecoin.

The bigger test now is whether the consortium can turn that infrastructure into sustained transaction volume and real economic activity. Europe has established a regulatory framework for stablecoins under MiCA; the next phase is proving that compliant euro-denominated tokens can attract enough users, liquidity and applications to compete in a market still dominated by dollar-based stablecoins.

SwissBorg’s decision to join the consortium therefore marks more than another listing relationship. It places a major European crypto platform inside a coordinated effort to build an ecosystem around EURØP—and could give the euro stablecoin a broader route from regulatory compliance to everyday on-chain use.
